AIM IM with Mister Lee
9:00 AM
you there?
cool, I'll make a cuppa tea and then ask ya a few
questions for the site to promote gig ok?
Nice one - I'm composing a Poll for your AF.net site
around the usage of the C-word!
what word is that?
The
worst one, that isn't capitalism!
communism? culture? coldplay?
9:05 AM
an
anagram using 4 of the letters from those
Coldplay.....
bless!
I
should like to apologise on behalf of my countrymen for the artists currently
known as Coldplay.
well, that was the dirtiest British word I could think of off the
top of my head
Tea is ready
9:10 AM
Chamomile...another C-word
cup?
a cup with a big frog on the side
painted on
not a side of frog
anyway
when do you get to the uSA?
and when is your show at Sidewalk?
are you bringing the whole grpoup?
group
How did you discover the Antifolk scene?
A
promoter over here suggested that we play a support show with Hamel on Trail
things worked real well for us, so we carried on down a similar route I
guess...
Trial!
Do you live in London?
9:15 AM
Do you think the English view Antifolk as a New York thing or an
American thing?
I'd say NYC. It always seems to be billed as NY/AF
specifically here.
What was the last album you put on to listen to?
be honest
I was listening to a compilation from 'The Garden of
Earthly Delights', featuring The Boggs while I did the washing up. Honest!
They're pretty cool, I saw them open for The Realistics last year.
What was the first album you ever bought?
ok
9:20 AM
It was Pig Bag, 'Papa's got a brand new pig bag'. I don't
know if it made it over there?
Yes it did!
Has your discovery of the Antifolk scene influenced you in any
way?
I'd say so, and not just artistically, but it's opened a
bunch of opportunities up to us too. We certainly wouldn't be coming to NYC if
we hadn't played all the AF shows we have in the UK
Who have you played with from the scene?
9:25 AM
Yourself, Jeff Lewis, Steve Shiffman, Diane Cluck,
Hamell, Randi Russo, Prewar Yardsale. Some others, who I'd say were 'parking
cars in the same garage' too, like The Lonesome Organist, Mountain Goats,
Johnny Dowd... We played with Sebadoh last year too.
9:30 AM
And you'll be with similar acts for the show at Sidewalk. Your
style seems to be a cross between spoken word and songs. How did that come
about?
I guess because when I started, I was just messing about
and letting ideas go where they wanted. I didn't have a sound or agenda to work
to. I love the eclectic angle!
I think eclectism has been an ongoing current on the scene as
well.
What can people expect to hear/see at your NYC show?
9:35 AM
Songs of love, loss, loathing and the human struggle with
the myths into which we are born, all dressed in toy electric drums, distorted
and psychedelic vocals, blistering improvised guitar and violin. Maybe a song
about a Samurai-sword wielding Thai taxi driver too.
Well, that should bring 'em out.
Finally, where can people learn more about you. Got a website?
Ah
yes www.misterlee.co.uk

but there are audio downloads & streaming audio already.

anything over??!
