Report from The Fort: 1/11/03
We know it was The Larval Organ's CD release party and this review should be about them (They are a fantastic band with a brilliant new record) but we were called away and #%&*# missed their set. However, we did see Beau Johnson and Barry Bliss and were quite happy to do so. Both men cut very real figures on stage. They both sang about taking one's time, learning lessons from life and APPLYING those lessons to one's self. Beau's style is the soft approach. The sidled up whisper of a drifting cowboy passing on some vital, melodic information. Barry's is the cry of the naked soul knee-deep in the sandbox with piss in his pants screaming "I know I'm a clown and you are a clown and this castle is made of sand but this ain't no joke!". And it is and it isn't and that doesn't matter. What it is, is art. Damn good art. Both writer's wake us up to our lives and say "Ok, now what are ya gonna do about it?" After that, the choices are yours.
