Biography

Thomas Truax (pronounced troo-aks) is antifolk's mad scientist, with a startlingly original act involving strange musical inventions like the Hornicator and motorized junk-sculpture rhythm contraptions such as the Cadillac Beatspinner Wheel and it's younger sibling Sister Spinster. He writes a rich range of songs from gentle, dark romantic lullabies to loud cartoon music melodramas. In little more than a year he went from mustering the courage to play his first solo open-mic performance at Sidewalk Cafe's infamous Antihoot night to playing packed houses downtown and in Brooklyn. On the heels of stirring things up overseas with a highly successful UK tour, he released his first full-length solo CD 'Full Moon Over Wowtown' , a cinematic and often hypnotic ode to the moon, in early 2003. He also writes the Wowtown News, an email newsletter that he sends to a long list of faithful subscribers. Wowtown is a fictional surreal place from which some of the characters and events in Thomas's imaginative songs originate.
