Bio
"The ocean has no silly names, the ocean has no add campaigns, the ocean has no claim to fame, the ocean soaks up all this pain." Mother nature is number one and Chelsea Lynn La Bate will daringly promote her along with other subjects such as self-discipline, non-violence, blissed out devotion, lucid thinking, self-preservation and blossoming beauty, to a world that falls sick to material excess, unleashed cravings and mental illnesses.
In the track, These Stones, Chelsea sings in a modest tone, "these stones, these stones we throw could build, could build our homes" poetically pinpointing that the power of our anger and violence can be redirected for sweeter outcomes.
In her second album, Cardboard Crowns (soon to be released), Chelsea billows "picking through the pawn shop of your dusty thoughts/the film reels of your mind are fearing dry rot," her voice growing from a cozy quiet, to a storm like wind.
Chelsea has been actively performing in the New York City area at venues such as Sidewalk Cafe, the Knitting Factory, 169 Bar, the Stain, Bar 4, Matchless and Rockwood Music Hall.

Why She's Antifolk: "Why I'm Anti-folk" I started plucking on guitar in 2003, moaning and making up words to match the sounds, adding poetry. I don't know a god damn note. I don't know chord names. I don't know covers and it doesn't matter. At Sidewalk, I get on stage and it just doesn't matter. There are no limits, no rules, no templates. I just practice being in touch with what is real- good or bad and that, to me, is Antifolk.
Press Quotes:
The Press: "Chelsea writes poetic lyrics which are serious and funny at the same time. She performs them singing and playing the guitar. She makes people laugh and dream; she makes you feel happy listening to her music." -Anita the Roman Games Diary
"LaBate has released 1 album and apparently has one more set to go. Her voice is reminiscent of a feminine Devendra Banhart, and her songs are often cleverly disguised stories." -James Pop Head Wound
"Her music is inspirational (and) melodic." -Avdj (podcast)
