As summer arrives, many potential festivalgoers will be envisaging trotting around muddy fields listening to regurgitated musical diarrhea whilst trading, eating and drinking corporate sponsored wares.

Fortunately, here in sunny Brighton, the UK’s first weekend antifest will be bringing the finest DIY low-fi and Antifolk from a mushrooming scene that is rapidly gathering pace and capturing the hearts of disenchanted music lovers everywhere.

SUMMER ANTIFEST LINEUP

FRIDAY JULY 15TH    8-11PM FREEBUTT £4

JINX LENNON 10:15 – 10:45
Lunatic Preacher or unapologetic Loud Mouth? Jinx Lennon is a man whose barbed wire tongue and pile driven acoustic spurts a noxious cauldron of folk, punk, disco and rap in search of musical retribution... All too familiar small-town subjects are delivered mercifully at your door and crammed with some of the bluntest, funniest and totally unforgiving lyrical toxins to emanate from the land of snakes in eons.
DAVID CRONENBERGS WIFE 9:30 – 10:00
David Cronenberg's Wife take dark morally dubious story-telling to new lengths. Whether playing acoustic twisted lullabies or in-your-face electric hollers the lyrics catch you off guard with their openness, black humour and troubling themes. A runaway pram collision of early Beck, Daniel Johnston, Frank Sidebottom and The Fall.
BOBBY MCGEES 8:45 – 9:15
The Bobbies come from Glasgow & Leicester: Jimmy exhorts park bench ramblings through a chewy toothless grin while El does the baby doll romanticizing. Ukulele and banjo are plinked and plonked like council estate redneck chic and bless us with a barrage of thimble sized philosophies, baby milk melodies and just the odd dirty old man story.
HORSEBOX: 8:00 – 8:30 Vaudevillian folk’n’roll that sits somewhere between your brainy chemicals and things like girls and trees.
+ Intermittent stand-up, poetry and open mic from:
SPINMASTER PLANTPOT:  A cross between Billy Brag, James Brown, a care in the community patient and a white man pretending to be black.
EMMY THE GREAT: "two drink minimum." - Time Out NY
JJCRASH: “I just wanna play songs to my friends to make ‘em laugh and think”.
SATURDAY 16TH JULY    8 – 11PM  FREEBUTT £4
BRAINS AND VIRGIN 10:15 – 10:45
Mental electronic vaudevillian cybertrash duo Brains and Virgin thump out a non-stop electronic cabaret of steroid pumped cheese. Virgin’s deep fried motherboard of squiggles, squishes thumps and bumps power Brains’ 21st century Noel Coward-esq leftist nihilism in a celebration of all that’s not quite right about Britain and beyond… Get your tits out…
MERTLE AND LARRY PICKLEMAN 9:30 – 10:00
Loud mouth Larry Pickleman has recently been voted the most offensive act on the UK Antifolk scene, whereas Mertle simply performs fragile and broken contemporary nursery rhymes and housewife tales. Together they compress their domesticated indifferences into a low-fi electronic/acoustic show that promises everything from bank robbing midgets to kamikaze butterflies. Get your feather dusters ready.
MILK KAN 8:45 – 9:15
Indescribable yet effortlessly familiar, Milk Kan's hybrid mix of rap, rock, blues, pop and punk has left all observers and writers stumbling for comparison. Skinnyman whizzing with the Wedding Present? The Streets in a punch up with Billy Brag, make your own mind up…as Radio 1’s Steve Lamaq put it “the weirdest thing on earth right now, Milk Kan you rule!.
DAN COSTELLO 8:00 – 8:30
One of the rising stars of the US Antifolk hip-hop scene. Dan Costello tells it like it is…over there…eek!
+ Intermittent stand-up, poetry and open mic from:
SIMON CHEETHAM: Manchester’s anti-poet and ginger icon.
WINSTON ECHO: Songs from the sofa
+ winner of sanctuary open mic extravaganza. Sat 16th (2-6PM)
